Learn About Peru!

On Friday, Alexandra's father came in and talked about the country of his birth, Peru!

First, we went down to the giant map to locate Peru.

Beverly got a chance to see the map for the first time.

As luck would have it, Alexandra's cousin was visiting during the same week that we had the giant traveling map! That's serendipity! (Serendipity is a fancy word for good luck.)

Alexandra's father shared a slide show. (Embedded below) with photos of Peru, including one of a surfing beach in Lima, Peru.

After his presentation, we all went outside to enjoy a special Peruvian treat!

Even Mrs. Yollis got one of the yummy desserts!

¡Muey delicioso!

Check out his fabulous slideshow! It includes images from his trip to Machu Pichu and the Nazca Lines.

About a dozen years ago, Mrs. Yollis traveled to Peru. She spent some time at Machu Pichu and thought it was a beautiful historic location.

The mountains were terraced or carved into steps.

When Mrs. Yollis was in Machu Pichu, there were llamas grazing on the terraced mountain.

What did you learn about Peru?

Would you like to visit Machu Pichu or the Nazca Lines?

  1. Dear Mrs Yollis and class,

I, just loved that Alexandra's father came in and became your very own travelling map of Peru.
I bet you learned a great deal more interesting facts about his birth land Peru.

Your Peruvian treat looked really yummy! I am interested to know were they really sweet!

I would love to visit Peru as it looks like a magical place to visit with so much culture and histroy.
Mrs Yollis I really loved the photo of you about a dozen years ago as a matter of fact it looks like it was taken just recently.

Thank you for sharing this wonderful post as I ready felt like I was in Peru.

    From your friend down under,
    AA. :)

  2. @ Señor,

We liked your slide show, and the treats were delicious!

Kelly's favorite slide was the photo at the beach in Lima. The road along the beach reminded me of the Pacific Coast Highway.

Trey's favorite part of your presentation was the picture of Machu Pichu. The terraces where they grew plants looked like giant steps.

    Thank you again,
    Trey and Kelly

  3. Dear Señor,

Thank you for coming in and sharing your photos. We loved the treats! We think you did a great job!

Royce's favorite picture was the picture of all of Machu Pichu, and it had the church on top of the mountain. Leila's was also.

    We have some questions:

    • Were did you get the yummy treats?

    • What other foods do they have in Peru?

    • What is your favorite food that comes from Peru?

    !Muchas gracias!

    Leila and Royce

      Dear Leila and Royce,

I got the sweats at a little argentinian market in called "Mercado Buenos Aires). There are tons of great things to eat where I am from, specially seafood (my favorite).

  6. Hi Mrs. Yollis and Class!
We are ALSO Grade Three Bloggers! We live in Calgary, Alberta, Canada! We have been blogging for almost one month now. Your blog has inspired us and it is one of the ones we follow as a class.
Today is the FIRST time that we have actually commented on someone else's blog. It is very exciting for us!
We really wanted to respond to THIS blog post because we are ALSO studying Peru! We wonder what the Peruvian treat was called that you all got the pleasure of eating? The slide show was really interesting and so were the pictures of YOUR adventures when you got to go to Peru twelve years ago.
One of our students did his own research into the Nazca Lines. He told us that the shapes could be monkeys, spiders, hummingbirds, orcas, llamas and even lizards. The Nazca people drew several hundred simple but HUGE animals and humans. They are ANCIENT geoglyphs and they are found in the southern part of Peru. Some of them are over 1500 years old! They are dug about 10 to 15 centimetres deep in the ground. Did you know the 25 degree celcius temperature all year round is what has helped the Nazca Lines to stay preserved?
We hope you can find the time to check out OUR blog - we will give you the link to OUR Peru post. We wrote it right after having a special guest speaker too!

Maybe SOME day we will be able to SKYPE with you!

Dear Mrs. Renton and third grade bloggers,

If you would like to try the sweets, they are called Alfajores. They are really great, specially if you like very sweet things. They are a popular treat in many South American countries but mostly Peru and Argentina.

I found some information on wikipedia that can help you learn more about them. Enjoy!
